A downloadable project

I'm just going to do it all here.

Pitch:

  • A simple game of picture taking and picture editing.
  • Players will all each go around their living space and snap a shot of just about anything and then edit the photo with whatever initial editing software that came with the phone (no 3rd party editing apps)
  • Photos are altered in any way such as enhancing exposure or adding a filter and once done everyone shows off their photo and all vote on who's picture was best and that is how winner is decided.

Play test report:

  • players: My family which include mother, father, sister, brother
  • 6 rounds were played
  • Each had an enjoyable time especially during this time and were talking smack to each other about winning.
  • Problem is that photos can become repetitive as my mom mainly took pictures of some saint statues we have.
  • Change of votes weren't an issue since all photos must be displayed before voting
  • A suggestion was made to make it so 1 person has to reach 3 total victory point in order to completely win therefore making it a bit more competitive as well as gives everyone I guess a better chance to win but could drag the game I don't know.
  • I don't know what else to add here my family didn't really say much bad about it
  • Great suggestion given by professor. Prompts should be given to lessen the chance of there being a repetitive photo which could widen the players artistic spectrum for the said prompt, that way everybody can think of their image and define their work they way they see fit to the prompt.
  • 3 prompts were made that included:
    • Within light
    • Item portraiture
    • It's Show Time
  • Very positive feedback from family members and  a few friends

Final Rules:

  1. Create a list of at least 5 prompts for players to aim for as they take pictures
  2. Players will decide how many points will be considered the winning score to end the game.
  3. Have any mobile device capable of taking pictures.
  4. 5 minutes will be given after picture is taken to edit the image in any way possible (NO 3RD PARTY APPS).
  5. Try not to replicate pictures or double a picture.
  6. NO NAUGHTY PICS YOU NASTY PEOPLE >:{
  7. Players will take turns showing off their masterpieces one by one.
  8. Once all  pictures all shown everyone will vote for their favorite picture and the one player with the most votes takes the round but the game isn't over until said score is reached.
  9. Lastly just be as creative and experimental as possible.

A game about taking pictures by Kevin Nestor

Design goals

  • Family friendly party game
  • Online/Local play
  • Self teach basic photo editing skills

Reflection

  • The game didn't really change much as the core idea was there and set a nice structure for it
  • I'm really too sure what design lessons I took away from it to be quite honest
  • The inspiration came from my love of photography as I am a film photographer (check out some of my work on my Instagram @MasTacosPlz) as well as wanting to find a simple way to bring the people at home together to be creative and or have fun in a group call with some friends
  • Well a thing i wasn't able to get down was my mom trying to figure out how to mess with the settings on the editor which was a flaw  in the game for those who don't really know how to use and editor in within 5 minutes
  • Something I'm proud of is the idea behind it all
  • I think carrying over the idea of creativity through another activity would be it .

Just as  a side thing I made this a week ago and haven't received much feed back on it. You don't have to watch it as this is apart from this project but feedback would be greatly appreciated for the work I put into it. It's my own version of the song Love Me More by Trippie Redd from the album A Love Letter To You 4. this is a video composed of various visualizers, the official video, and lyrical video that were mashed together to make what you are about to see if you do watch it. Again you don't have to but I just want some feedback on the work I put into it. Have a great day.
